The sanctuary is open every day from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM in summer and until 6:00 PM in winter; check for updates on the official website of the Municipality of Livorno. From central Livorno, take the LAM Rossa bus (red line), which leaves every 30 minutes from Piazza Municipio and arrives in about 20 minutes; there is free parking nearby.
Admission is completely free, as it is a religious sanctuary open to all visitors. There are no entrance fees or mandatory reservations, only voluntary donations in the collection boxes.
It is recommended to allow between 1 and 2 hours to explore the church, the museum, and the surrounding paths at a relaxed pace. If you include time for photos and quiet contemplation, it could extend to 2.5 hours.
Built in the 17th century on an earlier site of devotion, it is an important Marian sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Montenero, patroness of sailors and protector against storms. It houses paintings and ex-votos that recount historical miracles, making it a cultural symbol of Livorno.
Spring (April-June) or autumn (September-October) are ideal because of the mild weather and fewer tourists. Avoid midday in summer because of the heat; early morning offers cooler views and fewer crowds.
The main access involves climbing stairs and steep paths, so it is not fully accessible for wheelchairs; there is an alternative route that is gentler but still steep. Contact +39 0586 574011 for options or special assistance.
Just 20 minutes away by bus is Livorno's historic center with the Mascagni Terrace and the Central Market; also nearby are the beaches of Ardenza and the Diacinto Aquarium. Explore the Livorno tourism portal for combined itineraries.
Bring comfortable shoes for the uphill walk, water, and sunscreen; respect the silence inside the church and dress appropriately (shoulders and knees covered). Download the audio guide app from IAudioguia for an enriched experience with narration in English.
