Imponente fortaleza del siglo XV que domina el litoral de Rapallo, testigo de la historia marítima de Liguria.
Rapallo Castle is generally open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, although hours may vary depending on exhibitions; always check the official website. It is located on Vittorio Veneto Seafront, accessible on foot from Rapallo railway station (5–10 minutes) or by local bus. More info on the official Rapallo Municipality website.
Admission to Rapallo Castle is free, although some temporary exhibitions may have a small fee (around €3–5). No advance booking is required for standard visits. Check updates on Visit Rapallo.
It is recommended to allow between 30 minutes and 1 hour to explore the castle, its walls, and the interior exhibitions. If there are temporary displays, the visit could extend to 1.5 hours. It is a compact visit, ideal to combine with a walk along the seafront promenade.
Built in 1551 by the people of Rapallo to defend themselves against Barbary pirates, the castle is a symbol of Liguria’s medieval history and today hosts art exhibitions and cultural events. It represents the region’s Renaissance defensive architecture.
Spring (April–June) or autumn (September–October) are ideal because of the mild weather and fewer tourists; avoid July and August because of the heat and crowds. At sunset it offers spectacular views over the Gulf of Tigullio.
Access is partially accessible: there are ramps at the main entrance, but the interior stairs and walls may be challenging. I recommend contacting the Rapallo Municipality at +39 0185 2301 for specific assistance or adapted guided tours.
Nearby you will find Vittorio Veneto Seafront for a stroll, the Basilica of Saints Gervasius and Protasius (a 10-minute walk), and Rapallo Harbor with its yachts. Santa Margherita Ligure is only 5 km away by train.
Wear comfortable shoes for the walls, visit early to avoid groups, and combine your trip with a gelato on the seafront. Download Rapallo’s tourism app or use Tourism in Liguria for audio guides and current events.
