A maze of history, Mediterranean flavor, and views of the iconic Aragonese Castle that will transport you to another era.
The area is freely accessible year-round as it is an urban setting, but its main attractions such as Aragonese Castle have specific opening hours (generally 9:00-19:00 in summer). We recommend checking the latest hours on its official website: Aragonese Castle.
Walking around the village is free, but admission to Aragonese Castle has a fee (approx. €12 for adults). Discounts are available for children and seniors. Check updated prices here: Castle Rates.
To explore the alleyways, squares, and sea views, 1-2 hours is enough. If you visit the castle and its museums, add 2-3 more hours. Don’t forget to leave time to enjoy a coffee with views of the castle islet!
It is the medieval core of Ischia, dominated by the iconic Aragonese Castle (15th century). This castle-fortress protected the islanders from pirate invasions and today houses museums, gardens, and even a convent suspended above the sea.
Early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and heat. Ideal seasons: May-June and September-October, with pleasant weather and fewer tourists than in July-August.
The cobbled streets and steps make wheelchair access difficult. The castle is only partially accessible (it has an internal elevator but requires climbing initial stairs). Contact them for details: +39 081 99 19 59.
Ten minutes away is Spiaggia dei Pescatori with thermal waters, and 3 km away are the La Mortella Gardens. For more ideas: Attractions in Ischia.
Wear comfortable shoes for uneven cobblestones, and bring water and a hat in summer. Carry cash for small shops. If you visit the castle, wear non-slip shoes and bring a camera for its spectacular viewpoints!
