Donde el dios del mar escondió su trampa mortal... y un árbol de Navidad de piedra.
The cave is open from April to October (check the exact dates each year). The main access is by boat from Alghero (30 min) or via the 654 steps of the Cabirol Stairway from Capo Caccia. Updated hours: official website. Wear non-slip shoes.
General admission: €14. Children aged 6-12: €10. Children under 6: free. Includes boat ride + guided tour. Online purchase recommended: Alghero Experience or at Alghero port.
The guided tour inside the cave lasts 1 hour, but allow 2.5-3 hours total (boat round trip + waiting times). Access via the Cabirol Stairway adds 1 extra hour (only for good physical condition).
Discovered in 1700 by fishermen, it owes its name to the Roman god Neptune. Its impressive chambers such as the Organs Hall display limestone formations that are 2 million years old. Declared a European Geological Heritage Site. More information: Alghero Tourist Office.
Visit in April-May or September-October (mid-season). Avoid July-August because of overcrowding. The earliest morning slots (9:00-10:00) are quieter, especially if you access from Capo Caccia.
Access via the Cabirol Stairway is NOT accessible (654 steps). Access by boat requires moving across the deck and climbing 20 steps inside the cave. There are no ramps or elevators. Contact operators for specific details (+39 327 0287667).
We recommend combining your visit with: 1) Porto Conte Nature Reserve (hiking) 2) Palmavera Nuragic site (3 km) 3) Capo Caccia Lighthouse (spectacular views). Tourist map: Sardinia Tourism.
1) Book tickets in advance 2) Check sea conditions (+39 079 978083) 3) Bring a light jacket (inside temperature 16°C) 4) Camera with low-light mode 5) Never touch the formations (forbidden). More tips at: Alghero Welcome.
