❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are Drum Manor Forest Park's opening hours and how can I get there?

Drum Manor Forest Park is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (hours may vary by season). To get there: take the A505 road from Cookstown (12 minutes by car). GPS coordinates: 54.6674° N, 6.7223° W. More details: Official park page

Is entry to the park free or do I need to buy tickets?

It is completely free! No tickets or advance reservations are required. Only a small voluntary donation is requested for maintenance at the entrance (not compulsory). Parking is also free of charge.

How much time should I allow to explore the park properly?

We recommend allowing 2–3 hours to fully enjoy the park. This gives you time to walk the main trails (including the walled garden), visit the castle ruins, and relax by the lake. There are 3 marked routes of different lengths.

What historical importance does this place have?

It was the residence of the Kennedy family for 200 years, with the main mansion built in 1840. Sir Robert Kennedy was responsible for the first state forestry program in Ulster. The visible ruins include a 12th-century Norman tower and the beautifully preserved Victorian garden.

What is the best time of year to visit?

The ideal months are April to September: in spring, rhododendrons and azaleas bloom (May–June), while autumn offers stunning colors. Weekdays are quieter than weekends. Avoid days of heavy rain, as the paths can become slippery.

Is it accessible for people with reduced mobility or strollers?

Only partially accessible. The main path around the lake is suitable for wheelchairs, but other trails have uneven ground. We recommend checking directly with the visitor center (+44 28 8676 3770). Accessible toilets are available next to the car park.

What other tourist attractions are near Drum Manor?

Nearby highlights include the historic town of Cookstown (9 min), the Sperrin Mountains (for hiking, 25 min), and the Ulster American Folk Park (40 min). More options: Northern Ireland Tourism

What tips would you give first-time visitors?

1) Wear sturdy footwear - the paths can be muddy. 2) Bring water and a snack (there is no café). 3) Download the map from nidirect.gov.uk. 4) Do not miss the 'Lost Garden' and the views from the tower.
