The islands are only accessible by boat from Dingle (April-October). Ferry schedules vary depending on weather conditions. We recommend booking in advance through local operators such as Dingle Blasket Islands or checking with the Dingle tourist office (+353 66 915 1188).
The ferry costs around €40-€50 return for adults (2024 prices). Admission to the visitor center on the mainland (Great Blasket Centre) is €5. Children receive discounts. Check updated rates at: Great Blasket Centre.
Allow at least half a day (3-4 hours): 45 minutes of ferry travel round trip + 2-3 hours on land. Add extra time if you want to hike to the cliffs or explore the historic ruins.
They were home to a unique Gaelic community until 1953, celebrated for its literary legacy. Authors such as Peig Sayers and Tomás Ó Criomhthain documented their lives here. The visitor center explains this fascinating history.
From May to September, with better weather and more frequent ferries. July and August are the busiest months. For fewer crowds, visit in June or September. Avoid days with fog or strong winds.
Landing on the island requires climbing rocky steps from the boat. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or for people with mobility difficulties. The Great Blasket Centre on the mainland is accessible, with adapted access and accessible exhibits.
