A majestic Irish residence that embodies Georgian elegance and rich history, set in the picturesque County Cork countryside.
Castlehyde House is currently a private residence and does not have opening hours for the general public. However, it is an architectural landmark in Fermoy that many visitors admire from the outside or from the banks of the River Blackwater.
As it is an exclusive private property, there are no tickets for sale or admission fees for interior tours. You can enjoy views of the estate and its natural surroundings from public areas free of charge.
Since access to the interior is restricted, a stop to admire the exterior architecture and the riverside setting usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes. It is an ideal stop while exploring the Cork area.
It is the ancestral home of Ireland’s first president, Douglas Hyde, and it was spectacularly restored by the famous dancer Michael Flatley. It represents a key part of Anglo-Irish history and Georgian architecture.
The summer months, from June to August, offer the best weather and light for admiring the mansion and the green landscape that surrounds it. Clear days also provide the best views from the River Blackwater.
The surrounding public areas in Fermoy are generally accessible, but nearby rural paths can be uneven. There are no specific accessibility facilities within the estate for tourists, as it is not a public museum.
You are very close to the charming town of Fermoy and its riverside walks. We also recommend visiting the gardens of Lismore Castle, which are just a short drive away.
Always respect the privacy of the residents and do not attempt to enter the enclosed grounds. The best photographs and views can be obtained respectfully from designated points along the river or the public road.
