¿Sabías que en este bosque milenario de Irlanda se esconde una torre que vigilo balas en una guerra civil? Ven, te cuento los secretos que solo los locales conocemos.
The reserve is open year-round during daylight hours. The main access is via the R460 road near Ruan, where you will find designated parking areas to begin your route through this landscape managed by Burren National Park.
Entry to Dromore Wood Nature Reserve is completely free for all visitors. There is also no charge for parking, making it an affordable stop of great natural value on your trip through County Clare.
To enjoy the trails and see the lakes at a relaxed pace, we recommend allowing between one and a half and two hours. If you plan to take the longer hiking routes, your visit could easily extend to 3 hours.
Beyond its natural beauty, it contains fascinating ruins such as 17th-century O'Brien Castle and ancient archaeological sites. It is a place rich in heritage where history blends with Ireland’s typical karst landscape, ideal to explore with a good audio guide.
Spring and summer are ideal for seeing the flora at its finest, but autumn offers spectacular colours. We recommend going early in the morning to avoid crowds and increase your chances of spotting local wildlife such as pine martens or red squirrels.
Many of the main paths are wide, flat forest tracks suitable for sturdy wheelchairs and baby strollers. However, some deeper sections of the woodland may have uneven terrain that is more difficult to navigate.
You are very close to the village of Corofin and only a short drive from the famous Burren National Park. You can also visit the Dysert O'Dea Heritage Centre to round out your day of history and nature.
Wear comfortable, waterproof footwear, as the ground can be damp, and do not forget your camera for the lake scenery. Always check the weather forecast at Met Éireann before setting out, as Irish weather changes quickly.
