Skógafoss is open 24 hours a day all year round, as it is a natural outdoor waterfall. You can get there by car via the Ring Road (Route 1) from Reykjavik (about 2 hours), with free parking available on site. Check the map on Google Maps or the official Visit Iceland website.

Visiting Skógafoss is completely free, with no entrance fees or tickets required. You will only pay for parking if you travel by tour bus, but pedestrian access is free. More info at Visit Iceland.

Allow at least 30–45 minutes to see the waterfall from below, climb the stairs (about 500 steps), and enjoy the rainbow. If you want to explore the top and the river, plan for 1 hour total for a complete visit at a relaxed pace.

Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, standing 60 meters high, and it is linked to the Viking saga of Þrasi Þórólfsson, who supposedly hid a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. The best time is in summer (June–August) around midday to see rainbows in the sunlight, or at sunrise/sunset for fewer crowds. Avoid winter because of slippery ice, although it looks spectacular when frozen. Check the forecast at Vedur.is.

The lower area of the waterfall is accessible via a paved path for wheelchairs, but the stairs to the top (527 steps) are not. There are viewing platforms at the base for great views without climbing.
