Kirkjufellsfoss is a natural site open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, so you can visit whenever you like. It sits at the foot of Mount Kirkjufell, right next to Route 54, with a clearly signposted access point that's very easy to find from the village of Grundarfjörður.

Entry to view the waterfall is completely free, but keep in mind that the designated parking area usually does have a fee. Parking payment is generally made through mobile apps such as Parka.is or at the machines located on site.

The visit is usually short but intense; allow 30 to 45 minutes to walk the trail at a relaxed pace. This is enough time to walk from the parking lot, enjoy the views from the various viewpoints, and capture the iconic photo with the mountain in the background.

Beyond being the most photographed spot in Iceland, Mount Kirkjufell gained worldwide fame after appearing in the series 'Game of Thrones' as the 'Arrowhead Mountain'. Historically, it served as a visual landmark and navigation point for Danish sailors arriving on the island.

For photography, sunrise or sunset offer spectacular light; in winter it's a prime spot for chasing the Northern Lights, and in summer for experiencing the midnight sun. If you want to avoid crowds, try going first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon.

The main trail is gravel and has some slopes that can make wheelchair access difficult, especially when the ground is wet or icy. Although it's a short walk, caution and assistance are recommended if you're traveling with people of reduced mobility.

You're right in the heart of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, so you can visit the nearby fishing village of Grundarfjörður, famous for orca sightings in winter. The stunning Snæfellsjökull National Park and the photogenic black church of Búðir are also close by.

Wear waterproof footwear with good grip, as the path near the waterfall is often muddy and slippery from the spray. If you visit in winter, small crampons for your boots are absolutely essential, since the trail turns into an ice rink.
