Tikal National Park, where Complex Q is located, is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To get there, you can take a bus or taxi from Flores, and once at the park’s main entrance, walk along the marked trails to Complex Q, which is part of the main site; a guide is recommended so you do not get lost. Admission to Tikal National Park costs approximately 150 GTQ for Guatemalans and 200 GTQ for foreigners (around 25 USD), and includes access to Complex Q and the entire site. There are no completely free options, but children under 12 and certified guides receive discounts; buy your ticket at the main entrance.

It is recommended to spend at least 2–3 hours at Complex Q alone to explore its structures and climb the pyramid, but for a full visit of the Tikal area, plan for an entire day. If you go with a guide, the tour can last 4 hours in total, allowing time for photo stops and explanations.

Complex Q is a group of temples and plazas built during the Maya Classic period (AD 250–900), representing the power of the Maya elite in Tikal, one of the largest cities of the civilization. It served as a ceremonial and astronomical center, with alignments marking events such as the equinoxes, highlighting advanced Maya astronomy.

The best time of year is the dry season from November to April, with less rain and pleasant temperatures; avoid the rainy season from May to October. During the day, arrive early in the morning (around 6:00 a.m.) to avoid the heat and crowds, and enjoy a magical sunrise over the pyramids.

Access is limited due to the uneven trails and stone steps at Complex Q; there are no ramps or elevators, so it is recommended for people with good mobility. Near Complex Q you will find Temple IV, the Great Plaza, and Temple I (or the Temple of the Great Jaguar), all within a short walk. Outside the main site, Lake Petén Itzá and the ruins of Yaxhá are a few hours away by car, ideal for an extended itinerary in the Petén region.

Bring insect repellent, water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for the uneven terrain; hire a local guide for richer explanations (available at the entrance for about 100 GTQ per hour). Do not climb prohibited structures in order to preserve the site, and check updates at UNESCO Tikal before you go.
