Donde el agua esconde secretos garífunas y alguna que otra pelea de hierbateros
The waterfall is open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. You need to hire a boat from Livingston (the ride lasts 30-40 minutes). We recommend asking for exact schedules at your accommodation or at the main pier.
Access to the waterfall costs approximately 25-50 GTQ (3-6 USD). Boat transportation from Livingston is around 100-150 GTQ round trip per person. It is worth going in a group to reduce costs!
Set aside 2-4 hours including the boat ride. The trail to the waterfall takes about 15-20 minutes on foot, and it is worth staying a good while to swim in its natural pools.
It is a sacred site for the Garifuna community, who consider waterfalls places of spiritual connection. It is also part of the Rio Dulce Route because of its ecological value.
The best time is the dry season (November-April), when the water is clearer. It is ideal to arrive early (8-10 am) to avoid crowds and have good light for photos.
It is not fully accessible. The trail has uneven steps and rocks. There are viewpoints near the entrance, but reaching the main pool requires walking on uneven ground.
We recommend: Seven Altars (tiered waterfalls), White Beach (white sand), and the Garifuna town of Livingston itself with its colorful market.
Bring: non-slip water shoes, cash (there are no ATMs), biodegradable sunscreen, and a waterproof bag for your phone. Avoid bringing valuable jewelry during water excursions.
