Entra en la selva de Cobán donde cascadas secretas y monos aulladores te contarán historias que no olvidarás nunca.
The park is open every day from 08:00 to 16:30 and is conveniently located just a few blocks from Cobán Central Park. The main entrance is on 3rd Street in Zone 1; you can see the exact location and directions on Google Maps.
Admission has a very affordable conservation fee: Q10.00 for domestic tourists and Q20.00 for foreigners (prices subject to change). It is recommended to bring cash in the local currency to speed up payment at the entrance booth.
To enjoy the walks along the trails, see the lagoon, and breathe the fresh air, it is recommended to allow between 1 and 2 hours. It is a perfect visit to disconnect without leaving the city, ideal for walking or having a quick picnic.
It was originally a coffee estate owned by Belgian immigrants in the 19th century, and today it is Cobán’s main urban green lung. It was declared a National Park in 1980 to protect its cloud forest and biodiversity; it is a vital refuge for flora and fauna within the departmental capital.
The best option is to go early in the morning to spot birds and avoid the afternoon rains typical of Alta Verapaz. Although it can be visited year-round, the dry season (from November to April) makes the trails less slippery.
Accessibility is limited due to the natural topography of the terrain; most paths are dirt trails with roots and uneven ground. Although the entrance area is flat, going deeper into the forest can be difficult for wheelchairs.
Since it is in the center, you can combine your visit with Calvary Church, famous for its 137 steps and panoramic view. We also recommend visiting a nearby orchid nursery, since Cobán is the land of the White Nun Orchid.
Bring comfortable shoes with good grip (trainers or boots), mosquito repellent, and always a light raincoat or umbrella, since the constant drizzle is very common in the region. Don’t forget your camera to capture the beauty of the cloud forest.
