Spetses Island is an inhabited island, so it does not have an 'opening' time as such. You can easily reach Spetses from Porto Heli by water taxi or ferry. They run regularly. Ferries usually operate from 7:00 AM until around 10:00 PM, but it is a good idea to check the exact schedules in advance at the port to plan your return. No, Spetses Island itself does not require an admission fee or charge to visit. It is a Greek island open to the public. What you will need to pay for is transportation to get there (ferry or water taxi) and, of course, your personal expenses once there, such as food, drinks, or renting a bicycle or scooter if you wish.

To get a good impression of the island, we recommend spending at least one full day, around 6 to 8 hours. This will allow you to stroll through the main town of Dapia, visit some of its points of interest, enjoy a meal, and perhaps even take a swim at one of its beaches. If you want to explore more deeply or relax, consider staying overnight.

Spetses has a rich naval history and was a key island during the Greek War of Independence (1821-1829). It is famous for its heroine Laskarina Bouboulina, one of the few female admirals. The island preserves an aristocratic and traditional charm, with its historic mansions and the ban on private vehicles across much of the island, which gives it a special atmosphere. The best time to visit Spetses is during spring (April-May) and early autumn (September-October). The weather is pleasant, the crowds are smaller, and prices are usually lower than in the peak summer season. As for the time of day, we recommend arriving in the morning to make the most of the daylight hours and enjoy a relaxed lunch.

The main town of Spetses, Dapia, has cobbled streets and some slopes, which can make wheelchair movement a bit difficult. However, there are flat areas and accessible seafront promenades. We recommend using water taxis to move between beaches and key spots, as many are not accessible by road. Some establishments may have ramps, but it is advisable to contact them in advance.

From Porto Heli, you have several interesting options. You can visit the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, known for its acoustics. You can also explore the charming town of Nafplio, the first capital of Greece, or take a day trip to the beautiful island of Hydra, famous for the complete absence of cars. All of these are feasible excursions from Porto Heli.

Of course! I recommend renting a bicycle or scooter to explore the island freely, as private cars are restricted. Do not forget to try the local desserts, especially the 'amigdalota' (almond sweets). Wear comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat, especially in the warmer months. And, of course, be sure to enjoy a coffee or a drink at the picturesque harbor of Dapia.
