A spiritual refuge rooted in history and faith, the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior invites visitors on a journey through time and Byzantine tradition.
The monastery is usually open from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in summer (May-September), with reduced hours in winter. We recommend checking updated hours at the Kymi tourist office: Evia Guide. Sundays are usually reserved for worship.
Admission is free, although voluntary donations for maintenance are appreciated. Organized groups of more than 15 people should arrange their visit in advance by calling +30 2222 056200.
It is recommended to allow between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours to explore the monastery, its historic chapels, and admire the panoramic views of Evia's east coast from its viewpoints.
Founded in the 17th century, it is one of the oldest monasteries in Evia and a spiritual center of Kymi. Its Byzantine church preserves original frescoes and an 18th-century iconostasis recognized as cultural heritage.
Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) offer pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists. In summer, visit early in the morning to avoid intense heat and crowds.
The main area has adapted access, but the uneven ground and the cobbled path to the main entrance may present difficulties. Some interior chapels have narrow steps.
A 15-minute drive away is the town of Kymi, with its folk museum and lighthouse viewpoint. To the south are beaches such as Klisevi and Kalamos. Tourist map: Discover Evia.
Modest dress is required (men: long trousers, women: skirt below the knee and covered shoulders). Wear comfortable shoes for walking on stony paths, and bring water and sun protection. Interior photography requires special permission.
