Audio Guide of the Zeitouni Fountain

As it is a public outdoor monument, the fountain is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the week. It is located near the exit from Arachova toward Lamia; you can easily find it by walking from the center or by following directions on Google Maps.

The visit is completely free, as it is part of Arachova’s public urban heritage. You do not need to book or buy tickets; simply come and enjoy the architecture and the relaxing sound of the water whenever you like.

It is a short but charming stop; about 15 to 20 minutes is enough to appreciate the details, cool off, and take some excellent photographs. It is the perfect addition to a longer walk through the village’s cobbled streets.

This fountain is a reminder of the importance of water in mountain villages, and its name, 'Zeitouni,' recalls the former Ottoman name of the nearby city of Lamia. It represents a historic meeting point for travelers crossing Mount Parnassus and an example of the area’s traditional architecture.

Spring is spectacular because the water flow is stronger after the snowmelt from Mount Parnassus, although winter offers a magical atmosphere with snow. I recommend going at sunset, when the light is perfect for photography and the village begins to light up.

Arachova is a mountain village with many cobbled streets and slopes, so access can be challenging for wheelchair users. However, the fountain is usually close to the main road, which makes approaching by vehicle easier if planned carefully.

You are very close to the heart of Arachova, so do not miss the famous Clock Tower (Tyrias) with its panoramic views. You should also climb the steps to the Church of Saint George (Agios Georgios), the village’s patron saint.

Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes, as the pavement around fountains can be damp and slippery. Also, take the opportunity to try local products in the nearby taverns, famous for their formaela cheese and traditional Greek atmosphere.
