The monastery is usually open every day with split hours, generally from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. To reach it, you need to drive to the lower parking area and from there climb about 300 steps carved into the rock, with spectacular views over the Aegean.
Entry to the Monastery of Hozoviotissa is free, although donations for the upkeep of the site are appreciated. As a traditional gesture of hospitality, the monks often offer visitors psimeni raki (a local liqueur) and loukoumi (Turkish delight) when they reach the top.
I suggest allowing between an hour and a half and two hours for the full experience. You will need about 20 to 30 minutes for the climb up, depending on your pace, time to explore the interior and the chapel at leisure, and the descent while enjoying the scenery.
Founded in the 11th century by Emperor Alexios I Komnenos, it is the second oldest monastery in Greece and a gem of Byzantine architecture. It was built to protect a sacred icon of the Virgin Mary that, according to tradition, miraculously arrived by sea from Palestine.
Ideally, visit early in the morning right at opening time to avoid direct sun during the climb. If you prefer the afternoon, go up after 5:00 PM, when the cliff face casts shade over the stairs and the evening light is perfect for photography.
Unfortunately, because of its vertical location on a cliff and the need to climb hundreds of narrow stone steps, access is not possible for wheelchairs. The climb is not recommended for people with heart problems or serious mobility difficulties.
Just below it is the iconic Agia Anna Beach, famous for its deep blue waters where the film The Big Blue was shot. You can also visit Chora, the island's capital, just a few kilometers away and ideal for a meal after the walk.
The dress code is strict: men must wear long trousers, and women long skirts with covered shoulders. Borrowed clothing is usually available at the entrance, but it is better to bring your own. To enrich your experience, I recommend using an audio guide from IAudioguia.com and discovering hidden secrets as you climb.
