Spring and autumn are ideal thanks to the mild weather and fewer visitors. Avoid summer weekends. Mornings (9:00-11:00 AM) are perfect for seeing active animals, especially primates and big cats.
Yes, 95% of the paths are paved and wheelchair accessible. There are adapted restrooms and free wheelchair loan service (advance booking at +49 4346 4160). The picnic areas also have adapted tables.
Within a 15-minute drive: Molfsee Open-Air Museum (website) and Kiel Botanical Garden. In Gettorf itself, visit the 12th-century St. Jürgen Church and Schrevenpark (tourist info).
