¿Sabías que esta torre desafió bombas nazis y salió intacta? Ven, te cuento el milagro que salvó Dortmund.
The church is usually open to the public every day from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, making it ideal to visit while exploring the city center. We recommend checking the latest opening hours and religious services on its official website before you go.
Access to the church’s main nave is completely free for all visitors. However, if you would like to climb the tower for panoramic views, there is a small fee of approximately 2 euros per person.
Generally, a visit of 30 to 45 minutes is enough to appreciate the architecture and interior. If you decide to climb the tower and take photos of the views over Dortmund, we suggest allowing at least a full hour.
It is the oldest surviving church in Dortmund and is dedicated to the city’s patron saint, St. Reinold. It is a symbol of local identity and stands out for its blend of styles after being rebuilt following the damage suffered during the Second World War.
To avoid crowds and enjoy the silence, weekday mornings are ideal. However, if you visit in December, climbing the tower at sunset offers a magical view of Dortmund’s famous illuminated Christmas Market.
Access to the main floor of the church is adapted and wheelchair accessible. Please note that the tower climb does not have a lift and requires going up narrow stairs, so it is not accessible for people with reduced mobility.
You are in a great location: directly opposite stands St. Mary's Church, and just a short walk away is the famous Westenhellweg shopping street. You can also walk to the Old Market to relax at a typical terrace café.
Bring cash (coins) if you plan to climb the tower, as cards are sometimes not accepted for small amounts. Also, wear comfortable shoes; the steps up to the viewpoint are steep, but the city view is absolutely worth the effort.
