Built in the 14th century, it is an icon of Baltic Brick Gothic and partially survived the bombings of 1942. Its 117-meter tower served for centuries as a beacon for sailors of the Hanseatic League. Today it is a protected national monument.
From May to September, when the tower has extended hours (until 6:00 p.m.) and clear days allow views as far as Warnemünde. Mornings are less crowded. At Christmas, the market in front of the church is magical.
The main nave has step-free access, but the tower is NOT accessible (186 narrow steps and no elevator). There are adapted restrooms on the ground floor. Ask about specific needs at +49 381 203890.
A 5-minute walk away is Market Square with the Town Hall and St. Mary's Church. To the north are the Kröpeliner Tor district and the Historic Harbor. A 20-minute tram ride away: Warnemünde Beach. Interactive map at Tourismus Rostock.
