Donde los dragones asustan desde el techo y las piedras guardan secretos de 700 años
The church is generally open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Sundays for religious services. For tourist visits outside worship hours, it is recommended to check its official website Gransee Church District or call +49 (0)3306 2115 to confirm availability.
Admission is free, although donations for the upkeep of the historic building are appreciated (suggested: €2-3 per person). Reservations are not required for individual visits.
A full visit takes approximately 30-45 minutes. If you want to appreciate the architectural details, the Baroque organ, and temporary exhibitions, allow up to 1 hour.
Built in the 13th century in Baltic Gothic style, it is one of the oldest buildings in Gransee. It partially survived a fire in 1716, and its 72-meter tower dominates the town skyline. It was crucial along the Hanseatic trade route.
Weekday mornings are usually quieter. In summer you can enjoy the historic garden, while in December its Christmas concerts are a highlight. Avoid Sunday mornings if you are looking only for a tourist visit.
There are steps at the main entrance and limited access to the tower. There is an adapted side entrance on request—contact +49 (0)3306 2115 in advance. The restrooms are not adapted.
A 5-minute walk away you will find: the Town Museum (local history), Lake Stadtsee, ideal for walks, and the old medieval market square with preserved 18th-century houses. More information at the Gransee Tourist Office.
Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to climb the tower (exceptional panoramic views). Check the schedule for summer organ concerts. Respect silence during religious services. Photography is allowed without flash.
