Donde una condesa rebelde y cuervos chismosos guardan 800 años de secretos medievales
The Spremberger Tower is open for visits from April 1 to October 31, on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It is located in Cottbus old town, reachable on foot from the main station in about 15 minutes; check the map on the official Cottbus tourism website.
Admission to the Spremberger Tower is free, making it ideal for travelers on a budget. No advance booking is required for individual visits, but groups should contact the site in advance by phone at +49 355 38030.
It is recommended to allow 30 to 45 minutes to climb the tower, enjoy the panoramic views, and read the exhibition information. If you visit with a guide, it may extend to an hour.
Built around 1330 as part of Cottbus’s medieval walls, it served as a watchtower and prison until the 19th century. It represents a key example of Gothic architecture in Brandenburg and offers insight into the city’s defensive history.
Spring (April-May) or autumn (September-October) are ideal thanks to pleasant weather and fewer crowds; choose late afternoon for sunset views. Avoid midday in summer because of the heat.
Unfortunately, it is not wheelchair accessible due to the steep and narrow stairs (around 100 steps). Visitors with reduced mobility can still enjoy the exterior views and the on-site information.
Nearby you will find the Cottbus City Museum (a 5-minute walk away), the charming Branitz Canal, and Branitz Palace, 10 minutes away by tram. You can explore the entire old town in one morning.
Wear comfortable shoes for the stairs, bring water on hot days, and take a camera for the 360° views over Cottbus. Download an audio guide at IAudioguia to enrich the experience with historical details in Spanish.
