Schlossberg is open 24 hours a day year-round as a public space, but the Schlossbergbahn funicular operates daily from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. You can reach it on foot via the stairs (about 15–20 minutes from the city center) or by using the funicular from the station at the base; for more details, visit Freiburg's official tourism website at Visit Freiburg.

Access to Schlossberg is free, as it is a public hilltop park. However, the funicular costs around 3 euros for a one-way trip (about 5 euros round-trip), and if you visit the observation tower, there may be a small fee; check updated prices at Freiburg.de.

It is recommended to allow at least 1 to 2 hours to enjoy the views, the park, and the observation tower. If you walk up and explore the trails, it could extend to 2 to 3 hours, but it is flexible depending on your pace so you do not have to rush.

Schlossberg was a medieval fortress from the 12th century that protected Freiburg from invasions. It was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and later partially rebuilt. The best time is during summer (June to September) to enjoy the good weather and outdoor events, ideally at sunset for stunning views of the setting sun over the Black Forest. Avoid rainy days, as the trails can be slippery.
