The terrace is part of the Abbey route, generally open from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM (and until 7:00 PM in summer). Last entry is one hour before closing; you can check the updated schedule on the official Abbey website.
Access requires an Abbey ticket, which costs €11 for adults, but it is free for visitors under 18 and EU residents aged 18 to 25. I suggest buying your ticket online to avoid unnecessary lines.
Enjoying the views from the terrace will take about 15 to 20 minutes, ideal for panoramic photos. However, the full Abbey tour usually takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes if you keep a good pace.
This terrace was the former atrium of the original church and offers a strategic view that made it possible to watch over the bay against English invasions. It is the perfect point to understand the defensive and spiritual scale of the Mount.
The best time is first thing in the morning (9:30 AM) or just after 4:00 PM, when organized groups have already left. If you can, plan your visit to coincide with high tide to see the mount surrounded by water, a unique spectacle.
Unfortunately, access is very difficult because of the large number of steep steps needed to reach the top of the Abbey. It is not recommended for people with severely reduced mobility, although there are transport services to the base of the village.
As you leave the terrace, you will enter directly into the impressive Abbey Cloister and the Refectory, both architectural gems. Also do not miss the statue of the Archangel Michael crowning the spire, visible from this point.
Wear very comfortable, non-slip shoes, as the ground can be uneven. Also, download a specialized audio guide before going up so you can understand what you are seeing on the horizon, from Cancale to the cliffs of Brittany.
