A green lung in the heart of Lyon, an iconic space that combines natural beauty with rich history and diverse attractions.
The park is open every day of the year, with hours that vary by season: from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. in summer (April to October) and from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in winter. You can easily get there by metro (Line A, Masséna station), tram (T1), or bus. More details are available on the official page.
It is completely free! You do not need a ticket to enjoy the 117 hectares of green spaces, the lake, the botanical garden, or the zoo. Only some specific activities within the park, such as the little train, have an additional cost.
We recommend setting aside 2 to 3 hours to explore the park properly, although you could easily spend the whole day if you want to enjoy a picnic, rent boats on the lake, or visit the zoo in depth. Bring comfortable walking shoes.
The name comes from a 19th-century legend about a golden head of Christ buried here. Opened in 1857, it was one of the first urban parks in France designed for all social classes and is now a symbol of Lyon.
Spring (April to June), when 15,000 roses bloom in the Rose Garden, or autumn for the golden colors. In summer, arrive early to avoid crowds and heat. Avoid rainy winter afternoons, although the botanical greenhouse is spectacular all year round.
Yes, it has paved paths and accessible areas. Free wheelchairs are available (advance booking at +33 4 72 76 84 23). The tourist train is also adapted, and there are accessible restrooms near the lake.
Within a 15-minute walk, you will find the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon (mba-lyon.fr), the old silk workers' district of Croix-Rousse, and the Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse food market (hallespaulbocuse.lyon.fr).
1) Bring water and sunscreen in summer 2) Check the interactive map to locate services 3) Do not feed the zoo animals 4) On Sundays there are usually free street performances near the main entrance.
