Imagina una colina finlandesa que se armó hasta los dientes en 1939, lista para la guerra... pero nunca disparó un solo tiro. ¿Su secreto? Te lo cuento yo, que llevo 20 años susurrándolo aquí.
Tykistokallio is a natural area and open-air historic site, so it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Access is free via the marked trails near the center of Loviisa and the Ehrensvärd area.
The visit is completely free. As part of the land fortifications heritage and a public park, you do not need to buy tickets or make advance reservations to explore the area.
A relaxed visit usually lasts between 45 minutes and one hour. This gives you enough time to walk the nature trail, see the old defensive structures, and enjoy the views.
Tykistokallio (Artillery Rock) was part of the land fortifications designed in the 18th century to protect the town and support the sea fortress of Svartholm. It is a key remnant of the historic power struggles between Sweden and Russia.
Summer and early autumn are ideal, especially on a clear day for panoramic views. Daylight visits are recommended, as the terrain can be uneven and there is no artificial lighting on the trails.
Due to the nature of the terrain, which is rocky, uneven, and made up of forest paths, the site is not wheelchair accessible. A moderate level of mobility is required to move across the rocks and dirt paths.
You are very close to the charming harbor of Laivasilta and Loviisa Old Town with its wooden houses. In summer, boats to the sea fortress of Svartholm depart from the harbor.
Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, as you will be walking on natural rock that can be slippery when wet. We suggest bringing our audio guide on your phone so you can understand the context of the trenches you will see along the way.
