The park is open year-round, but visitor centers have seasonal opening hours (normally May to September for Savonlinna). It is only accessible by boat from Oravi or Kolovesi. Check boat schedules on the official website.
Admission is free! You only pay if you book boat transport, rent a kayak, or use guided services. Parking in Oravi or Kolovesi may have small fees (details here).
We recommend at least half a day. If you plan a full hiking route or kayaking among the islets, allow 4 to 6 hours. Perfect for a day trip from Savonlinna (1 hour by car)!
It is a sanctuary for the Saimaa ringed seal, one of the rarest mammals in the world! It also protects the island-dotted lakes typical of the Savonia region. Learn about its biodiversity at this link.
Summer (June to August) for kayaking and seal spotting. Winter for cross-country skiing and ice fishing. September offers spectacular autumn colors!
There are accessible areas in Oravi (adapted toilets, parking). However, the terrain is uneven on the islands. Contact the visitor center (+358 20 639 4620) for logistical support more details.
Combine it with Savonlinna (15 km away): visit Olavinlinna Castle and the medieval opera festival. Rokua Geopark is also a 2-hour drive away. More ideas at Savonlinna Tourism.
