Chirripó National Park was created in 1975 and is home to the highest point in Costa Rica, Cerro Chirripó at 3,820 meters. Its name comes from the indigenous word 'Chirripó,' which means 'river of stones.' It is a biological reserve of great importance because of its biodiversity and páramo ecosystems.

The dry season, from December to April, is ideal for visiting the park because there is less chance of rain and better visibility. Weekends are usually more crowded, so if you prefer peace and quiet, visit on weekdays. The early morning hours offer the best views.
