The castle is open from Tuesday to Sunday in summer (June-August) from 10:00 to 17:00. In winter (September-May) it is only open on weekends from 10:00 to 16:00. Closed on Mondays all year. Check for updates at the official website.

Built in the 13th century, it is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Finland. It was a key administrative and defensive center between Sweden and Russia. Today it houses exhibitions on the history of the Häme region.
Summer (June-August) is ideal for enjoying the gardens and better lighting. Weekday mornings have fewer visitors. In winter the medieval atmosphere is unique, but some outdoor areas may be snowy.

300 meters away is the Hämeenlinna History Museum and the Gothic cathedral. Aulanko Park is a 15-minute walk away. The birthplace of Sibelius and Lake Vanajavesi are also well known.
