Donde el Dubái de las perlas y los vientos antiguos desafía a los rascacielos
Al Bastakiya (Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood) is open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The main entrance is near Dubai Museum (Al Fahidi Fort). You can easily get there by taxi or metro (Al Fahidi station). For more details, visit the official Dubai Culture website.
It is completely free! You do not need tickets to explore the streets and traditional architecture. Some private museums within the area may charge additional fees, such as the Coffee Museum (approximately 10 AED).
We recommend setting aside at least 1.5 hours to wander the alleys, take photos, and see the traditional courtyards. If you visit indoor museums such as the Comic Book Museum or art galleries, add 1 extra hour.
It is one of the last surviving neighborhoods from pre-oil Dubai (1890-1900), where Persian merchants built these houses with wind towers ("barjeel") to fight the heat. It is a living testament to traditional Gulf architecture.
Prioritize the cooler months (November to March) and visit early (9:00-11:00 AM) or at sunset (after 4:30 PM) to avoid extreme temperatures. Mornings are ideal for photography with soft light.
The cobbled streets and some museum stairs can be challenging for wheelchairs. However, there are main accessible routes. We recommend the accessibility map from Dubai Culture for more details.
A 5-minute walk away, you have Al Fahidi Fort (Dubai Museum) and the scenic Dubai Creek. Cross the water in an "abra" (traditional boat), and you will reach the bustling Gold Souk. See the exact location on Google Maps.
Wear comfortable shoes for uneven surfaces, and bring water and sunglasses. There are hidden cafés in the courtyards: try Arabic coffee at the Arabian Tea House. Ask permission before photographing local residents.
