Cerro Verde National Park is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day. To get there, you can take public transportation from Santa Ana or Coatepeque, or drive your own vehicle. Currently, admission to Cerro Verde National Park costs $3.00 USD for both domestic and international visitors. If you want to take guided hikes to the Ilamatepec or Izalco volcanoes, there will be an additional fee for the local guide. It is a good idea to bring some cash. To fully enjoy Cerro Verde National Park, we recommend setting aside at least half a day. If you plan to hike Santa Ana Volcano (Ilamatepec) or Izalco, your total visit could extend to a full day (6-8 hours) because of the trail duration. Plan your itinerary in advance.

Cerro Verde National Park is an inactive stratovolcano that forms part of the Izalco and Santa Ana volcanic complex. Its importance lies in being a privileged viewpoint over these two giants and in hosting rich biodiversity. In addition, it has historically been a natural lung and a symbol of El Salvador's scenic beauty.

The best time to visit is during the dry season (November to April), when the weather is cooler and there is less chance of rain. Early in the morning (between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM) is ideal, as the views are usually clearer and temperatures are more pleasant for hiking. Avoid the middle of the day in summer.

The area near the visitor center and the main viewpoints of Cerro Verde is relatively accessible. However, the trails leading to the neighboring volcanoes (Santa Ana and Izalco) involve steep climbs and uneven terrain, which makes them difficult for people with reduced mobility. Very close to Cerro Verde, you can enjoy the other two giants: Santa Ana Volcano (Ilamatepec) and Izalco Volcano. Also nearby is the beautiful Lake Coatepeque, which offers water activities and stunning scenery. Not far away, you will also find the city of Santa Ana with its historic center.

Be sure to bring enough water, sunscreen, a hat or cap, and comfortable clothing in layers, as the weather can vary. If you plan to hike, wear suitable footwear. Do not forget your camera to capture the impressive views. Arrive early to avoid crowds and enjoy the local flora and fauna.
