A privileged setting on El Espino Beach where nature and the sweeping panorama of El Salvador's Pacific coast come together in an immersive experience.
The viewpoints are open 24 hours a day and access is free. They are easily reached from the CA-2 highway (the Coastal Highway) heading toward El Espino Beach. Informal parking is available in the area. More details: Official travel guide
There is no admission fee; it is a natural space with free public access. It is a good idea to bring cash for any purchases at local food or craft stalls.
A visit of 1 to 2 hours is enough to take in the panoramic views, take photographs and rest. If you plan to combine it with a swim at the beach, set aside a full half day.
The viewpoint symbolizes the bond between coastal communities and the ocean. Historically it was a strategic lookout for fishermen, and today it is a tourist icon thanks to its spectacular sunsets over the Pacific.
Sunrise (5:30-6:30 AM) and sunset (5:30-6:30 PM) are magical, with intense colors over the ocean. Avoid midday because of the strong sun, unless you are looking to shoot photography in high light.
The natural access, with uneven ground and makeshift steps, makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. There are only basic viewpoints with no adapted infrastructure.
El Espino Beach (ideal for surfing) is 7 minutes away, and the mangrove complex of Jiquilisco Bay is 15 km away. I also recommend stopping at Palmarcito, a quieter beach with local restaurants.
Sunscreen, a hat and water are essential. Non-slip footwear for the natural trails, a camera and a bag for your rubbish. Evenings and mornings can be cool: bring a light sweatshirt.
