You can visit the point of interest at any time of day, but we recommend going in natural daylight (6:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.). The digital audio guide is available 24/7 by downloading it in advance through this link.
No, access to the beach and the download of the audio guide are completely free. You only need a smartphone and an internet connection to download the content before your visit.
The full experience lasts approximately 45 minutes, but you can extend your visit by enjoying the beach. We recommend setting aside 2 hours if you plan to combine culture with swimming or recreation.
This figure represents mythological creatures from the Salvadoran coast that, according to local traditions, protect the mangroves and warn fishermen about weather changes. The audio guide includes stories from residents of El Cuco.
The best season is from November to April, with dry weather and calm surf. In the mornings (8:00-10:00 a.m.) you will find fewer people and better light for photos. Avoid July to September because of heavy rains.
The main access has firm ground, but the final stretch toward the El Cuco statue includes sandy paths. We offer an adapted version of the audio guide for visitors with low vision: see here.
Within 30 minutes you can find: Jiquilisco Bay (Biosphere Reserve), the Salt Museum in Puerto El Triunfo. For complete planning: Official Tourist Guide.
1) Download the audio guide to your phone before arriving. 2) Wear closed shoes for the ecological trail. 3) Visit our volunteer stand on the beach on weekends to certify your visit. More info: Clean Beaches Program.
