A coastal national park in Egypt that blends rich wildlife with a millennia-old historical legacy.
Wadi El Gemal is open every day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can get there by car or book a tour from Safaga or Marsa Alam. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for desert terrain. For more details, visit the official Egypt tourism website.
Entrance to Wadi El Gemal National Park costs approximately 5 USD for foreign visitors. Prices may vary, so check the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency website before your visit.
It is recommended to allow 3 to 4 hours to explore the area, including the valley, the beaches, and the mangrove. If you plan to snorkel or dive, consider extending your visit to half a day.
Wadi El Gemal is known for its Roman ruins and its importance as an ancient trade route. It is also a protected area with rich biodiversity, including mangroves and unique marine life.
The best time to visit is between October and April, when temperatures are milder. Avoid summer (June to August) because of the extreme desert heat.
Access can be difficult due to sandy and rocky terrain. However, some areas near the entrance are more accessible. It is recommended to contact a local guide to adapt the visit.
Nearby you can visit the town of Safaga, known for its beaches and diving centers, or the Monastery of Saint Anthony, about 2 hours away by car. Gebel Elba National Park is also nearby.
Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat, as there is very little shade. Hire a local guide to make the most of the experience, and respect park rules to help preserve the ecosystem.
