La Montaña Dakrour se eleva en el Oasis de Siwa, Egipto, como un testimonio natural del desierto, con formaciones rocosas blancas y vistas panorámicas que capturan la esencia del Sahara.
As a natural outdoor site, Dakrour Mountain is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. It is located southeast of the Siwa Oasis, and the most common way to get there is by taking a short taxi ride or a local tuk-tuk from the town center.
Access to climb the mountain and enjoy the panoramic views is completely free. However, if you visit during the summer for the famous therapeutic sand baths, these treatments do have a cost that is negotiated directly with local providers.
A typical visit for light hiking and photography usually lasts between 1 and 2 hours. If you plan to stay for sunset, which is spectacular from the summits, we recommend arriving at least an hour before sundown.
Dakrour is sacred for its healing properties and for being the site of the Siyaha Festival (Festival of Reconciliation) every October. During the full moon of that month, thousands of Siwans gather here for three days to eat together, celebrate peace, and renew friendship between the tribes.
For general tourism, the best time is from October to April, with sunset being the magical moment of the day. If your goal is medicinal sand baths for rheumatism, you should go in the hottest months (July and August), when the sun is strongest.
Unfortunately, it is not accessible for wheelchairs or for people with severe mobility limitations. The terrain is rocky, uneven, and steep, requiring an ascent on foot along natural limestone paths.
A short drive away you will find the famous Cleopatra's Bath and the ruins of the Temple of the Oracle of Amun. You can also take the opportunity to visit the ancient Shali Fortress in the center of the oasis, which perfectly complements the historical experience.
Bring comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking on rocks, plenty of water, and sun protection. If you visit during the summer for sand baths, it is vital to follow local instructions to avoid dehydration; and if you go in October, be prepared for festive and welcoming crowds.
