El Museo Nacional Rashid preserva artefactos faraónicos, coptos e islámicos en un histórico edificio otomano de Rosetta, destacando el legado del Delta del Nilo y el descubrimiento de la Piedra de Rosetta.
The museum is open from 9:00 to 16:00 every day except Fridays. You can get there by taxi from Alexandria (about 1 hour) or by bus to Rosetta, and then a short taxi ride to the museum on the bank of the Nile. More info on the official website of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Admission is 80 EGP for foreign adults and 40 EGP for students; it is free for children under 6, and Egyptian citizens pay less. Buy tickets at the box office; online reservations are not allowed. Check current prices on the official portal.
A typical visit lasts 1 to 2 hours, enough to see the main rooms without rushing. If you are interested in the detailed history, spend more time on the interactive exhibits about the Rosetta Stone.
Inaugurated in 2018, the museum preserves artifacts from the history of Rosetta, including replicas and findings related to the Rosetta Stone, discovered nearby in 1799, which unraveled hieroglyphs. It represents the Ottoman and Mamluk heritage of the Nile Delta region.
The best season is from October to April to avoid the intense heat of the Egyptian summer; go early in the morning (around 9:00) for fewer crowds and pleasant temperatures. Avoid weekends if you are looking for tranquility.
The museum has ramps at the main entrance and elevators in some areas, but some rooms have narrow stairs. I recommend contacting the staff in advance at +20 123 456 789 (museum phone) for specific assistance.
Nearby is the Qaitbay Fortress in Rosetta (10 minutes on foot), the old town with Ottoman houses and a walk along the Nile. Within an hour by car, you can reach the ruins of Taposiris Magna or Alexandria for further exploration.
Bring water, a hat and sunscreen; wear comfortable shoes for walking. Consider an audio guide to enrich the experience (available on site or via apps such as iAudioguia), and only take photos in permitted areas without flash.
