Although the city and the Marina are open 24 hours a day, shops and bazaars in El Dahar usually operate from 10:00 to 23:00. The most convenient way to get there is by official taxi or Uber, heading to the center or the Hurghada Promenade.
Walking through the streets, the souk, and seeing the mosque from the outside is completely free. You only need to pay an entrance fee if you choose to visit specific attractions such as the Hurghada Museum, which costs around 200 EGP.
For a cultural visit including the old market, the mosque, and the Marina, we recommend setting aside between 3 and 4 hours. This will allow you to enjoy the atmosphere without rushing and take in the local history.
Originally a small fishing village founded in the early 20th century, Hurghada was transformed into a strategic port and tourist destination. It represents the vital fusion of traditional desert life and the modernity of the Red Sea coast.
Between October and April you will find the most pleasant temperatures for walking. The best time of day is at sunset, when the heat eases and the lighting of Al Mina Mosque is spectacular.
The New Marina area has paved walkways and wheelchair-accessible ramps. However, keep in mind that the streets of the old town (El Dahar) are often uneven and made of compacted sand.
Besides the city center, you are very close to the ports for trips to the Giftun Islands. It is also highly recommended for families to visit the nearby Hurghada Grand Aquarium.
Always carry Egyptian pounds in cash for small purchases in the souk, and be prepared to bargain in a friendly way. It is essential to dress respectfully, with shoulders and knees covered, if you plan to enter religious areas.
