A paradise of white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters in the Red Sea, ideal for marine life and diving.
Giftun Island can only be visited through boat excursions departing from Hurghada (7-10 USD each way). It has no fixed opening hours, but tours usually leave between 8:00-10:00 AM and return around 4:00 PM. For updated options: Official excursions.
The national park fee is about 5 USD (cash only) plus the excursion cost (from 15 USD). Most tours include transfers, snorkeling, lunch, and fees. Compare prices at GetYourGuide or Viator.
Excursions last about 8 hours (approximately 9:00 AM-5:00 PM), with 45-minute round-trip transfers, snorkeling time at 2-3 spots, buffet lunch, and 2-3 hours of free time on beaches such as Mahmya or Orange Bay.
It has been a protected area since 1995 because of its biodiversity (200+ species of coral and tropical fish). It is also home to the remains of the British shipwreck SS Dunraven (1876). More info: UNESCO Marine Parks.
Ideal season: October-April (25-32°C, lower humidity). Avoid July-August (>38°C). Best time for photos: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM (optimal light over the Red Sea).
It is not adapted. Access to the beaches involves walking on sand, and disembarkation from boats is done via small craft (15 minutes by zodiac). Only a private tour allows limited adjustments.
Recommended: 1) Mahmya Beach (5 km north), 2) Abu Ramada (for diving with turtles), and 3) Hurghada Old Market (info at Visit Egypt).
1) Use water-resistant sunscreen, 2) Bring EGP/cash (cards are not accepted), 3) Wear water shoes (sharp coral), and 4) Never step on coral. More tips: Travel guide.
