Donde un rey derrochador firmó su adiós al trono en una noche de verano, cambiando el destino de Egipto para siempre.
The Ras El Tin Lighthouse is not regularly open to the public for interior visits. It is an active military facility, so access is restricted. However, its exterior can be admired from the Alexandria Corniche. We recommend a walk through the area to enjoy the views. Unfortunately, there is no official website for visiting hours, as it is not a conventional tourist attraction.
Since the interior of the lighthouse is not accessible to the public, there are no entrance fees as such. Enjoying the views from the Alexandria Corniche is completely free. It is an excellent opportunity to capture stunning photos at no cost.
Since it can only be seen from the outside, setting aside about 15 to 30 minutes is enough to admire the lighthouse, take photographs, and enjoy the maritime surroundings. If you plan to stroll along the Corniche, the time may be longer, but for the lighthouse itself, it is a short and scenic stop.
The Ras El Tin Lighthouse stands on a site of great historical importance, near where the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria is believed to have stood, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Although it is not the original, the current lighthouse helps keep Alexandria’s maritime tradition alive. It is a symbol of the city’s rich naval heritage and strategic location.
For the best views and photographs, we suggest visiting at sunrise or sunset, when the light is softer and the sky offers spectacular colors over the sea. As for the time of year, spring from March to May and autumn from September to November offer more pleasant temperatures for walking along the Corniche, avoiding the intense summer heat.
Access to the exterior area of the lighthouse, along the Alexandria Corniche, is generally flat and accessible for wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility. However, since there is no access to the interior of the lighthouse, there are no specific accessibility facilities beyond the public sidewalk. The view from the Corniche is fully accessible.
Plenty! Very nearby you can visit the majestic Ras El Tin Palace, one of the oldest royal palaces in Egypt, the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque with its impressive architecture, and the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa a little farther south. The lively Eastern Harbor is also within easy reach, ideal for a walk.
I recommend bringing your camera to capture the beauty of the lighthouse and the maritime surroundings. Dress comfortably for walking along the Corniche, and consider bringing sunscreen and a hat, especially during the day. And do not forget to enjoy a cup of Egyptian tea or coffee at one of the nearby seaside cafés.
