❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are the opening hours and how can I access Nabq Protected Area?

The park is open every day from sunrise to sunset (approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). It is about 35 km from Sharm El Sheikh, and the only practical way to get there is by 4x4 vehicle or by joining an organized tour, as the terrain is sandy and rugged.

How much is the entrance fee, or is there any charge?

Yes, there is an entrance fee of around 5 to 10 USD per person, plus a small vehicle fee. It is essential to bring cash in local currency (Egyptian pounds) or US dollars to pay at the security checkpoint, as card payment is usually not available.

How much time is recommended for the visit?

For a complete experience that includes seeing the mangroves, the wreck of the Maria Schroder, and doing some snorkeling, we recommend setting aside at least half a day (4–5 hours). If you want to enjoy the calm of the Bedouin beaches, you can spend the whole day there.

Why is this place so important historically or culturally?

Nabq is a unique biodiversity sanctuary that is home to the northernmost mangroves in the world and protects a pristine marine ecosystem. It is also home to local Bedouin tribes who preserve their ancestral traditions of fishing and desert life.

What is the best time of year or time of day to go?

The best time is between October and April to avoid the intense heat of the Egyptian summer. We recommend arriving early in the morning, around 9:00 AM, to enjoy the wildlife without crowds and in more pleasant temperatures.

Is the area accessible for people with reduced mobility?

Because of its wild nature, deep sandy tracks, and lack of paved paths, accessibility is very limited for wheelchairs. However, panoramic views can be enjoyed from an off-road vehicle at certain designated points.

What other attractions are nearby to make the most of the trip?

You are very close to the famous resort city of Sharm El Sheikh, ideal for dinner or nightlife after your visit. To the north, you can continue your route to the town of Dahab, known for its relaxed atmosphere and the Blue Hole.

What practical tips would you give to make the most of the visit?

You must carry your original passport for police checkpoints along the route, as well as enough water and food, since there are few services inside the reserve. Do not forget your snorkeling gear, as the reefs here are less crowded and more colorful than in other tourist areas.
