General admission is around USD 5-6 (about EGP 150-180) per person. Some specialized areas such as marine zones or archaeological tours may have additional costs. We recommend booking with certified guides such as Red Sea Diving Safari.
It is advisable to spend at least one full day to enjoy both the desert area, with its archaeological sites and gazelle spotting, and the coastal areas with snorkeling on the reefs.
It has been a protected site since 2003 and is home to prehistoric petroglyphs, Roman ruins at the port of Sikait, and the ancestral territory of the nomadic Ababda tribe. Its name means 'Valley of the Camels' because of the historic caravans.
From October to April, when temperatures are around 25-28°C. To spot animals such as Dorcas gazelles or desert foxes, visit early in the morning or at sunset when they are most active.
The desert terrain and rocky trails make wheelchair access difficult. Visits require 4x4 vehicles and short walks. It is recommended to contact operators such as Emerald Tours for adapted options.
Do not miss the unspoiled Shams Alam beach (15 km north), the historic Emerald Mines, or Hamata Island with its coral reefs. Combine it with the port of Marsa Alam for more water activities!
Closed-toe shoes for rocky terrain, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), at least 2 liters of water per person, and binoculars for wildlife watching. Mobile coverage is irregular, so consider walkie-talkies if traveling in a group.
