A coastal paradise in Manta, Ecuador, renowned for its natural beauty, ideal winds for water sports, and vibrant local life.
Santa Marianita Beach is public and open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. To get there, you can take a taxi or a bus from Manta; the road is in good condition. It is an open-air beach, so there are no fixed visiting hours.
Good news: access to Santa Marianita Beach is completely free. There are no entrance fees or ticket booths. However, if you use sports equipment rental services or nearby restaurants, those will have a cost.
To fully enjoy Santa Marianita, I suggest planning at least half a day, around 3 to 5 hours. That gives you enough time to relax on the sand, swim, perhaps try a water sport, and enjoy a good lunch at a local restaurant. If you like kitesurfing, you may want to stay all day.
While Santa Marianita does not have an ancient history of ruins or old civilizations, its significance lies in its evolution as a center for water sports, especially kitesurfing. Its location and winds have made it a world reference point, attracting athletes and nature lovers. It is a place where modernity and adventure have found a home.
The windy season, ideal for sports such as kitesurfing, runs from May to December. However, for general beach enjoyment, January to April is also excellent, with less wind and sunny weather that is perfect for relaxing. Early mornings and sunset are the calmest times, and the colors are spectacular.
Direct access onto the sand for people with reduced mobility can be somewhat difficult, as there are no specific ramps or walkways along the entire beach. However, nearby restaurants and some accommodations may offer accessible facilities. I recommend contacting the establishments directly if you need specific assistance.
Less than 30 minutes from Santa Marianita, you can visit Montecristi, birthplace of the toquilla straw hat, or the city of Manta with its lively waterfront and the Cancebí Ethnographic Museum. You can also explore other nearby beaches such as San Lorenzo or San Mateo. There is plenty to discover in the surrounding area.
Of course: use sunscreen, bring swimwear and a towel, stay well hydrated, and carry cash for small shops. If you are interested in kitesurfing, there are schools for beginners. Most importantly, respect the environment and the local people. Enjoy the tranquility and energy of this unique place. And do not forget to try the local ceviche; it is delicious.
