La Chocolatera is located inside the Salinas Naval Base and has set visiting hours. It is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, from 08:00 to 16:30. To enter, you must present identification at the base entrance. We recommend checking the hours on the official Salinas Municipality website.

La Chocolatera is the westernmost point of the Ecuadorian coast, where two powerful ocean currents crash against rocky cliffs, creating a natural spectacle that resembles 'boiling chocolate' because of the foam and the color of the water. It is also an important birdwatching and sea lion observation point at certain times of the year.

For the best experience, we recommend visiting La Chocolatera at high tide, when the crashing waves are most impressive. Any time of year is good, but if you want to spot sea lions, the season from July to September is ideal. Early morning or late afternoon are the best times to avoid the strongest heat.
