❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are the visiting hours and how do I get to the waterfall from Baños?

Pailon del Diablo is open every day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You can get there from Baños by taking a bus to Río Verde ($0.50, 20 min) from the bus terminal, or by walking 2.5 km along the Waterfalls Route. The main entrance is next to the Caballos El Chivo café. See route: Exact location.

How much is admission and do they accept card payments?

General admission is $3 for adults, $1.50 for children and seniors (2024). Only cash is accepted at the ticket booth; there is no online ticket sales. It includes access to the viewpoints and the trail to the cave behind the waterfall.

How much time is needed to complete the full route?

The full circuit takes between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes, including the main viewpoints, the cave behind the waterfall (bring a rain jacket!), and time for photos. If you visit the optional suspension bridge, add 15 more minutes.

Why is it called 'Pailon del Diablo' and what does the name mean?

Its name comes from the rock formations that resemble a giant cauldron and from a local legend about a devil that lived in the cave. Geologically, it is an 80-meter drop of the Verde River with astonishing force.

Is it better to visit during the dry season or the rainy season?

The ideal time is June to September (less rain), but the most spectacular water flow is seen from October to December. Arrive before 10:00 AM or after 3:00 PM to avoid crowds. Avoid weekends and holidays.

Is it accessible for people with reduced mobility or strollers?

It is not accessible: there are uneven steps (more than 400), narrow suspension bridges, and slippery areas. Not recommended for wheelchairs. Local operators such as Adventure Bus offer adapted tours.

What other interesting places are nearby?

Along the same route: Casa del Árbol ($2 admission) with its extreme swing (15 km away), and hot springs such as El Salado (Termas El Salado). In Baños, visit the Basilica and try melcocha.

What should I bring for the visit?

Essentials: non-slip shoes (wet rocks!), a rain jacket or dry clothes, a phone protector, and a small backpack. There are restrooms in the area ($0.50) and poncho stalls ($5). There are no nearby ATMs.
