¿Sabías que este paseo empezó como un puñado de chozas de pescadores y ahora late con salsa choke hasta el amanecer?
Atacames Boardwalk is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, as it is a public coastal space. You can get there by bus from Esmeraldas (about 30 minutes) or by car via the main road; nearby parking is available. Check the map on Google Maps for precise directions.
Visiting the Boardwalk is completely free, since it is a public open-air promenade. You will only pay for additional services such as food at restaurants or drinks at nearby bars.
It is recommended to spend between 1 and 2 hours walking along the boardwalk, enjoying the sea views, and perhaps stopping at a food stand. If you include sunset or nightlife, it can extend to 3 hours.
The Boardwalk is the tourist heart of Atacames, a beach destination famous since the 1970s for its vibrant Caribbean atmosphere and popular celebrations. It represents Ecuador’s coastal culture with music, seafood, and Afro-Ecuadorian traditions.
The best time is during the dry season (June to December) to avoid rain, and at sunset (5–7 pm) to watch the sun go down over the Pacific with fewer crowds. Avoid peak weekends if you are looking for peace and quiet.
The main boardwalk has paved paths and ramps in some areas, making wheelchair access easier, but the adjacent beach is sandy and can be difficult. I recommend checking current conditions with the Atacames municipality at +593 6-267-0000.
Nearby you will find Atacames Beach for surfing and relaxing, the Central Park with handicrafts, and 10 km away, Tonsupa Beach. Explore more on the official Esmeraldas tourism website: Esmeraldas Tourism.
Bring sunscreen, water, and cash for street vendors; try local ceviche or bolones. Be prepared for crowds in high season and use safe transportation at night. Download an audio guide at IAudioguia to enrich your experience.
