The fortress is open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM in high season (May-September) and with reduced hours in low season. It can be reached on foot from Šibenik's historic center in about 15-20 minutes along a marked path. We recommend checking public holidays at Šibenik Tourism.
General admission is 25 HRK (~€3.30). Advance booking is not required. Children up to age 7 enter free. Tickets are purchased at the entrance. Check group discounts on the official website.
A full visit takes between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. It includes walking the walls while admiring panoramic views of the Adriatic and exploring its historic passageways. It's a good idea to allow extra time for photos.
It was built in the 16th century as part of the Venetian defensive system against the Ottomans. Together with St. Nicholas Fortress and St. John's Fortress, it formed a unique protective triangle declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
Sunrise or sunset, to avoid the heat and see Šibenik bathed in golden light. In summer, June and September are less crowded than July and August. Avoid rainy days because of the risk of slipping on wet stone.
Accessibility is limited: steep stairs and uneven ground. There are no ramps or elevators. It is recommended only for visitors with mild mobility limitations. Detailed information is available in the accessibility guide.
The Cathedral of St. James (a UNESCO site) and St. Michael's Fortress with its viewpoint are 900 meters away. We also recommend the City Museum and Mandalina harbor. Interactive map at Šibenik Tourism.
Wear non-slip shoes, and bring water and sun protection. At night, use a flashlight for the walk back. It's perfect for picnics in the gardens while enjoying the views. Check summer events such as Šibenik Festival.
