A picturesque and lively street in Rovinj, known for its open-air art galleries and historic charm.
Grisia Street is a public street, so it is open 24 hours a day. You simply need to reach Rovinj Old Town, located on a peninsula, and it is impossible to miss! You can get there on foot from anywhere in Rovinj or by using public transportation.
Not at all! Grisia Street is a public space, and access is completely free. You can stroll freely and enjoy the art galleries and shops at no cost. It is an essential part of the Rovinj experience.
Although the street is not extremely long, we recommend setting aside at least 1 or 2 hours so you can stop at the galleries, admire the art, look for a souvenir, and simply soak up the atmosphere. If you are an art lover, you could easily spend even more time there.
Grisia Street is famous for hosting the oldest open-air art exhibition in Croatia, held annually since 1967, usually in August. The street becomes a huge art gallery celebrating the region’s rich artistic tradition, attracting artists and visitors from all over the world. It is the cultural heart of Rovinj.
For a quieter experience, we recommend visiting early in the morning or in the late afternoon, just before dusk. If you are looking for the full artistic buzz, the best time is during the art festival in August, although it will be more crowded. Outside the high season (July-August), it is always more relaxed.
Grisia Street is cobbled and quite steep, which is typical of old towns. This can make access difficult for wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility. Caution is recommended and, if possible, plan ahead. You can find more information about accessibility in Rovinj on the tourist office website: Rovinj Tourist Office.
Plenty! Right at the end of the street you will find the majestic Church of St. Euphemia, with spectacular panoramic views. You can also explore the harbor, the Balbi Arch, or simply lose yourself in the charming lanes of the Old Town. The entire historic center is a gem waiting to be discovered. To plan your visit, you can check the official tourist guide: What to See in Rovinj.
Wear comfortable shoes, as the streets are cobbled and steep. Do not hesitate to step into the galleries; often you can chat with the artists. Take your time to admire the details of the buildings. If you enjoy photography, it is an incredible place at sunrise or sunset. And of course, be ready for an uphill walk, but the views and atmosphere are well worth it!
