Donde los mineros declararon una república revolucionaria... y duró menos que un helado croata bajo el sol
The trail, known as Sentona's Trail, is a public path open 24 hours a day, all year round. The most popular starting point is at the foot of Labin Old Town, descending toward Maslinica Bay in Rabac.
Access is completely free and open; you do not need to buy tickets or make advance reservations. It is an excellent budget-friendly option for enjoying nature in the Istria region.
The hike is approximately 2.4 km long; it is recommended to allow between 1 and 2 hours. The descent from Labin to Rabac is quicker (about 45 minutes to 1 hour), while the ascent requires more time and physical effort.
Historically, it was the main route connecting the old fortified town of Labin with the fishing port of Rabac. Today it is known as Sentona's Trail, dedicated to the ancient Liburnian goddess who protected travelers.
Spring and autumn are ideal, as the streams and waterfalls along the path carry more water, making the scenery even more beautiful. In summer, it is best to go early in the morning to enjoy the forest shade and avoid the midday heat.
Unfortunately, it is not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. The terrain is a natural hiking trail, with uneven surfaces, exposed roots, rocks, and several sections with wooden stairs and bridges.
You can combine the walk with a visit to Labin Old Town, famous for its art galleries and Baroque palaces. Upon arriving in Rabac, you can relax on its famous white pebble beaches.
It is essential to wear sports or hiking shoes (avoid flip-flops), bring enough water, and use insect repellent in summer. A good tip is to walk downhill to enjoy the views and return by local bus or taxi to avoid the steep climb back.
