Donde los árboles susurran historias de cazadores furtivos y petroglifos rebeldes
The trail is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To get there, take Route 1 toward Bagaces from Liberia, then follow the signs to Palo Verde National Park; access is via an unpaved road of about 10 km. Check the official map at SINAC or call +506 2665-7197 for updated directions.
Admission is free, as it is a trail managed by the community and SINAC to promote ecotourism. Only consider transportation costs or optional guides, around ₡5,000 per person if you hire a local one.
It is recommended to set aside 1.5 to 2 hours to walk the 2 km main trail, enjoying the stops at the viewpoints. If you go with children or take photos, allow up to 3 hours for a full experience.
This trail in Guanacaste's tropical dry forest stands out for its role in conserving the biodiversity of the Tempisque Conservation Area, protecting endemic species and the habitat of the Tempisque River. It was created in the 1990s to educate visitors about forest regeneration after extensive cattle ranching.
The best season is the dry season from December to April, when the forest is at its finest with less rain and more visible wildlife. Go early in the morning (8–10 a.m.) to avoid the heat and see active monkeys and birds.
The trail has sections with uneven ground and stairs, so it is not fully accessible for wheelchairs. However, there is a flat initial viewpoint; contact SINAC at +506 2665-7197 for adapted route options or guides.
Nearby you will find Palo Verde National Park (15 min) for boat safaris, Río Celeste Hot Springs (1 hour), and the beaches of Playa Hermosa (45 min). Explore more at Visit Costa Rica.
Bring insect repellent, water, comfortable shoes, and binoculars; protect nature and leave no trace. Hire a local guide for wildlife spotting and download the SINAC map before you go.
