The adventure begins early; boats usually leave from the Puerto Jiménez pier between 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM to make the most of wildlife viewing. Access is exclusively by sea or via authorized trails, and it is mandatory to be accompanied by a guide certified by SINAC.

Day tours in the area generally range from $95 to $140 USD per person, depending on the station (Sirena or San Pedrillo). This price is all-inclusive: boat transportation, National Park entrance fee, professional guide, and usually a picnic-style lunch.

Set aside a full day for this experience; the typical activity lasts about 8 hours, returning to town around 2:00 PM. If you are a true nature lover, there are overnight options that require at least two days.

The dry season, from December to April, is ideal because the trails are less muddy and wildlife is easier to spot. However, visiting during the green season (May to November) offers a more lush forest and a more intimate experience with fewer tourists.

Due to the wild nature of the terrain, which includes beach landings (wet landing) and walks along uneven jungle trails, unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible. A moderate level of fitness is required to enjoy the hike.

In addition to the jungle, you can explore the calm waters of the Golfo Dulce by kayak while looking for dolphins or visit beautiful Playa Preciosa. Puerto Jiménez is a strategic point where the jungle meets the sea, offering activities for every taste.

Wear closed trekking shoes (not sandals), quick-dry clothing, and neutral colors so you do not scare the animals. It is vital to bring plenty of water (at least 2 liters), strong insect repellent, and book your entry weeks in advance, since spaces are limited.
